Save life of Dak Bahadur Pun

Mission Team fund raising campaign for Dak infront of Tudikhel

Mission Team at Newroad Mahaankaal

 Appeal from Dak's Mother

As told by mother

Child’s Name: Biraj Chhetri
Mother’s Name: Binita (Paaru) Tamang Chhetri
Father’s Name: Rajkumar Chhetri

Introduction

As told by Paaru,
I (Paaru) am now 21 years old. I got married when I was 16. Because of several problems in my house I was unable to attend school when I was young. I can’t even recognize any different shapes of different alphabets! Even in this age of information I am living the life a complete illiterate! I became a mother by the age of 18, i.e., my son Biraj came to this world. By the time my son was 6 months old, my husband left me, because of which I became a helpless woman in this Kathmandu city. In this expensive city, where you cannot even expect drinking water without having the ability to pay, the harsh behavior of this society towards a helpless and destitute woman like me frustrated me so much that I lost the sight of all directions in my life. I spent my days begging for help from whoever I had known in the city. Then one day I asked myself, “How long will I be able to survive like this?” Thus I decided to struggle on my own. After searching for a while I got a job of a domestic helper in some homes with the help of a sister I knew. This finally made my life a little some bit easier.

As time passed by I finally got a job that paid me a little bit, i.e, around Rs. 3000-3500 ($40 - $45 ) per month, and even in that job, I get paid based on the days that I go for work. On days that I am absent I don’t get paid. In this expensive city what could I do with that much money? Pay rent? Pay for food? Then how could I pay for my child’s education?

From somewhere I heard about this organization called ‘Mission Education Nepal’, which provides funds and scholarships for children of desperate parents like me. After I heard about it, I met some members of the organization and told them about my misery. After hearing my story, they decided to help my son Biraj, and they immediately admitted my son in a local school. These days, my son wears his uniform and goes to school, just like other children; it’s a dream come true! Because of a good organization my son is able to go to school. Thanks to that organization, because of which my son is not going to be declined from the light of education. Thanks to those brothers, who understood my hardships and took me to this organization. And thanks to those brothers, who opened such an organization, because of which even poor and orphans kids have been given the opportunity to see the light of education!

Crying Mother on Mothers Day

It was a glory morning and I was in the room of principal of New Vision School, Koteshwor to admit Bishal Adhikari. But there was a lady in front of us who was crying and requesting principal to enroll one of her two sons in full scholarship. I asked the principal why she is crying. He turned towards me and started to request me that if I can help her. She, Kabita Siwakoti, from Gorkha district, right now living at Koteshwor, runs a footpath shop (Nanglo pasal) at Ratna Park and her husband is a construction labor. They can’t afford all the school expenses of their both child, so you have to support them some how, principal was requesting me. After getting all the information about her, I looked at her and told her I will let you contact if I can do anything for you and I left that room.
After a day long hard work, next day we enrolled her son Sujan Siwakoti in class five. Yes we are little satisfied today, we will get a good sleep tonight. Thank you, who had supported us to bring some changes, some smiles.
“List of these families who can’t afford academic expenses is very long therefore your consideration will be highly appreciated.”

Moving A Bit Further

MISSION EDUCATION NEPAL is a socially responsible, self-organized, self-govern, non profit, non political and non government organization established in 26 January 2011 under Nepal Organization Act- 1978 and it received affiliation to the Social Welfare Council (SWC), with the intention to provide formal education to all underprivileged children of Nepalese society by sponsorship.

Children as the future leaders and the builders of the nation need special attention and care and their issues have to be well reflected in the development planning process of the country. Many improvements as regards to quality of education, physical facilities and infrastructure development are very much needed. The rates of literacy among girls’ children showed significant improvement in recent time.
our small help-Biraj is a school kid now

The literacy rate of children age 6-14 stands at 67.7 percent (72.0 percent for male and 63.6 percent for females). About 80.3 percent of the children age (6-14) who are classified as literate have attained primary school level and 15.7 percent secondary school level and the rest mainly include those not attaining formal schooling.

Child labor reflects the socio-economic condition of a country. As the families have to face difficulties arising from economic hardship, it directly affects and has a long term implications on the status of children. In such a dire economic reality the children invariably become the first casualties in that they have to contribute their share of labor so that their families can afford the two square meals a day. Nepal has its share of problem as far as child labor is concern. We can see our children working everywhere from disorganized to organized sectors. How is the child labor defined?

As per population census 2001, it shows that one percent of the households (39955 households) in Nepal has domestic child workers and these domestic workers consists of 57295 in numbers of which 62.8 percent are males and 37.2 percent females. Families can’t afford high-pay education, hence their child are kept at home or sent to become a child worker.

Our Mission:

-          Providing formal education and other relevant facilities to underprivileged children of our society by sponsorship.
- To work and raise voice against any kind of child violence, exploitation and to promote child right.
- Facilitate child to enhance their future.
- Campaigns for education awareness.
- Joining hand with other partner organizations for sharing and learning

Mission Education values every donation we receive, and we strive to implement our funds as efficiently
as possible. 90% of the money we accept is used to help needy children in Nepal. Only 10% is spent on
administration and fundraising, which includes processing donations and staying in contact with our
donors.

Mission Education seeks the support from all part of the world to make these children at least a educated citizen of this country Nepal so we humbly request you all to give your kind support, consideration and best wishes.
